Protein-forward reset: return to routine without a detox
After travel, celebrations, or a disrupted week, there is no need to cleanse or compensate. A protein-forward reset simply returns structure to your meals: a useful protein source at each eating occasion, alongside vegetables, fruit, carbohydrate, and enough fluid for your needs.

A reset is a return to routine, not a detox
Detox teas, juice cleanses, and severe restriction are not required to remove toxins. The liver and kidneys continuously perform that work. In nutrition, the useful meaning of a reset is much less dramatic: resume regular meals, restore a balanced plate, and choose habits you can repeat.
Avoid trying to erase a higher-intake weekend with fasting or punishing exercise. Large swings between restriction and overeating make appetite harder to interpret and rarely build a sustainable routine.
Put a clear protein source in each main meal
Protein supports the repair and maintenance of body tissues. Research in healthy adults suggests that distributing protein more evenly across breakfast, lunch, and dinner can stimulate 24-hour muscle protein synthesis more effectively than saving most of the day's protein for the evening.
A practical meal can include eggs or yoghurt at breakfast; chicken, fish, lean meat, tofu, or lentils at lunch; and another palm-sized protein serving at dinner. The exact amount should reflect body size, activity, health history, and total energy needs.
Use protein to support fullness, not to remove other foods
Systematic-review evidence indicates that higher-protein eating patterns can improve fullness and may support body-weight management. That does not make carbohydrate or fat unnecessary. Whole grains, potatoes, fruit, and other carbohydrate sources support training and daily activity, while dietary fats remain important for health and flavour.
Build a complete plate: a protein source, vegetables or fruit, a suitable carbohydrate portion, and a modest source of fat. This is more nutritionally complete—and easier to sustain—than eating protein alone.
Protect lean mass when calories are reduced
During an energy deficit, adequate protein and resistance training help protect lean tissue. Reviews in resistance-trained athletes suggest that protein needs can rise during more aggressive dieting, but those higher athlete-specific targets should not be applied automatically to everyone.
For most people, the better reset is moderate: return to regular portions, include protein across the day, train normally, and allow body weight and appetite to settle. Anyone with kidney disease or another condition affecting protein intake should seek individual clinical advice before increasing it.
